Darcy’s character has always been fascinating to me. He comes from a very wealthy family and has been the ‘untouchable’ for his whole life - yet, when he meets Elizabeth, it’s as if she has tripped him and he has fallen out of sync.

He is aware of, and tries to return to, the usual flow (As even in the proposal he says that her connections are beneath him); but he just can’t. Why? Because Elizabeth has uprooted everything he believed in, humbled him, and led him down a better path.
