How to set a moving gif as your icon

PSA: Several Tumblr users now have gifs as their icons, and if you want one (or if you want to be able to see one), follow these steps.

First, if you’re on Chrome, download this neat little extension called APNG. The only way to set a gif as your icon is to upload it as an APNG file, which Chrome has trouble with for some reason. This extension lets you see it.

Next, download a free software called GIF to APNG. This will be necessary to convert the .gif file you want into a .apng. Find whatever gif you want and crop/resize it to 64x64 pixels (do this in Photoshop, another graphic editor, or through an online converter). Then just put it through GIF to APNG, save the file somewhere, and upload it as your icon. Voila! You should now be able to see your Tumblr icon move!

Even if you don’t do any of this, simply downloading the APNG extension for Chrome will allow you to see your friends’ moving icons if they happen to have them!
